How to level up in real life
Step 1: Choose your skills
Four broad areas cover most goals: Health (exercise, sleep, food), Wealth (work, saving, side projects), Happiness (family, friends, hobbies) and Intelligence (reading, learning, deep work). These are the four skills IRLXP uses.
Step 2: Pick one small action for each
- Health: a 30-minute walk or a workout
- Wealth: one focused hour on your most valuable work
- Happiness: a call or dinner with someone you care about
- Intelligence: 20 pages of a book or a lesson
Step 3: Score every action
Give each action XP and add it to the skill. Seeing four bars rise tells you which part of life you are neglecting, which is often the useful insight.
Step 4: Keep the loop short
Log the moment you finish. Check progress weekly. Adjust XP values if something is too easy or too hard.
Step 5: Make leveling visible
A character that visibly gets stronger is more motivating than a number in a spreadsheet. In IRLXP, your pixel RPG character unlocks gear from Wood through Metal, Cobalt, Emerald, Sapphire and Infernal to Eternal as you level. Your Apple Health workouts, walking and sleep can add XP automatically, and your Apple Watch can show progress on the watch face.
How long does it take?
Leveling is a long game. Most people notice momentum in the first couple of weeks, but the real change comes from months of showing up. Aim to log something every day rather than doing something big once.
